A Historic Outdoor Centre with Community at Its Heart

Cudham Shaws Outdoor Centre has a long history of helping young people experience the outdoors and develop confidence through adventure.

​

Originally operated as a Girlguiding campsite in the post-war years, the site became known for providing opportunities for young people from London and surrounding urban areas to experience nature, open countryside and outdoor education. The centre was supported by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, helping establish a fully accessible indoor accommodation building designed specifically so young people using wheelchairs could enjoy outdoor adventures and residential experiences surrounded by nature.

In 2021, Bexley Scouts took over responsibility for the site and now manage the 92-acre outdoor centre for Scouts, schools, youth organisations and community groups from across London, Kent and the South East. 

Today, the centre continues that legacy by connecting people with the outdoors while supporting young people, inclusion, sustainability and community engagement.
