CUDHAM SHAWS OUTDOOR CENTRE
Requirements
Be the friendly face that helps every adventure start smoothly.
At Cudham Shaws Outdoor Centre, we welcome hundreds of young people and volunteers each year for camps, activity days and outdoor adventures. From Scouts and Guides to schools and youth organisations, every visit starts at Reception — and that’s where our Reception Team plays a vital role.
We are looking for welcoming, organised and enthusiastic volunteers to join our Reception Team, primarily supporting Friday evenings and busy arrival periods across the site.
This is a fantastic role for someone who enjoys meeting people, helping others and being part of a friendly outdoor centre environment.
The Role
As a Volunteer Reception Team Member, you will help welcome groups arriving onsite and ensure they have everything they need for a successful visit.
You will be one of the first people visitors meet, helping create a warm, organised and positive first impression of Cudham Shaws. From checking groups in and directing them around site, to answering questions and supporting the wider volunteer team, you will help make every visit run smoothly.
The role is primarily based around Friday evenings when many groups arrive for weekend camps, though additional opportunities may be available during events and busy periods.
We’re Looking For People Who:
Are friendly, approachable and confident speaking with people
Enjoy helping others and providing great customer service
Can stay calm and organised during busy arrival periods
Are reliable and able to work as part of a team
Have good communication skills
Are passionate about supporting young people and outdoor experiences
Want to contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment
No previous experience is required — just enthusiasm and a willingness to help.
What You’ll Be Doing
Welcoming visiting groups to site
Supporting check-in and arrival procedures
Helping groups navigate the campsite and facilities
Providing information about activities, buildings and site rules
Answering visitor questions and directing enquiries
Assisting with reception and shop duties where required
Supporting the smooth running of busy arrival evenings
Helping maintain a positive, friendly and professional atmosphere onsite
Working alongside the wider volunteer and site teams
What We Offer
A welcoming and supportive volunteer team
Flexible volunteering opportunities
Experience in customer service and visitor engagement
Opportunities to get involved in wider centre projects and events
The chance to meet new people and support youth organisations
A fun outdoor environment in the Kent countryside
